India is currently home to a population of over one billion citizens. A study conducted by the Word Health Organization in 2015 shows that one in five Indians may suffer from depression in their lifetime, equivalent to 200 million people.

Due to the stigma associated with mental illness, a lack of awareness, and limited access to professional help, only 10-12% of these sufferers will seek help.

In the current scenario, in India, there is seen to be a large insufficiency in the infrastructure to cater to the statistics of depression and other mental health issues in India. The country has always considered depression to be a taboo topic and that people who suffered from this had a mental disability and were treated by shock treatment. Now with the advancement in the information gathered regarding depression and other mental health issues, there has to be an increase in the infrastructure regarding mental health.

In a country with 1.3 Billion people, it is estimated that around 50 million are suffering from mental illnesses.
